About map

Map is a blog project to explore the richness of world literature and promote the role of the translator in sharing international voices with English-speaking readers.

For all the countries in the world where English is not the only official language, I’ll invite an expert (most likely a literary translator, but sometimes a publisher, author, academic or critic) to describe the contemporary literary landscape and recommend up to three:

– all-time must read books available in English

– best new books to have been published in English in the past year or two

– great publishing houses for contemporary literature

– great literary magazines for contemporary literature

– new books or authors that haven’t yet been translated into English and should be

For countries where English is the only official language but whose literature is not widely known internationally, I’ll invite an expert to describe the contemporary literary landscape and recommend up to three:

– all-time must read books

– great publishing houses for contemporary literature

– great literary magazines for contemporary literature

– new books or authors that are not widely known outside the country and should be

For countries where English is the only official language and whose literature is widely known internationally, I’ll invite someone to talk about the publication and reception of literature in translation.

Hope you find something you like!
